University of Colorado researcher Roger Bilham and University of Montana researcher Bebecca Bendick conducted a study on the quake. It explored past earthquakes and their potential causes. They found that this was related to the speed at which the earth rotates and the size of the earthquakes on a daily basis.
Earthquakes increase whenever the earth's rotation speed decreases. The rotation speed of the earth is only a few millimeters less than usual. However its impact causes powerful earthquakes. Earthquakes are more common, especially in the equatorial region.
Although it is not possible to determine definitively the relationship between Earth the speed of the earth's rotation and the occurrence of earthquakes, it is somewhat true. As such, earthquakes are more likely to occur during the winter when daylight hours are low. Similar incidents will happen in the future.
Researchers have studied the number of earthquakes in the last six years and the potential for strong earthquakes in 2018 and the next five years. The results of this study are being discussed among geological researchers.
